I love to swap...
the bunnies that go hip hop
to owls and pumpkins
or even paper dolls... I want it all !
I love to collect and as you can see....
Many times you may have seen or met this wonderful talented artist before...
At the many swaps she hosts on her blog...or you may have seen her talented , outstanding art pieces she sells at a show.... that where I first met her over 5 years ago. And I have been a fan ever since.

Her name is Debra Schoch...she lives in Ontonagon, Mich. on the shores of Lake Superior.
You may know her as Debra Schoch of 'Hop Hop Jingle Boo'. She sold her first piece of art in 1985, but been a artist since she could hold a crayon.
Debra got married at age 18 and has been married to her wonderful husband for 35 years, they have one brillant daughter, and 2 of the sweetest grandchildren they could ever hope for, a boy and girl...and they also have 2 fat Russian Blue cats to keep them company.

According to Debra's husband...she has a taste for collecting a few items...like Rabbits, Transferware, old dolls, owls, glass ornaments, chalkware, chocolate molds, old tins, buttons, old Halloween, Christmas and Easter decorations, new folk art, postcards, old books, old photos, quilts, hooked rugs, majolica, teapots, shoes, squirrels, birds, and turkeys too boot!
Debra's favorite season is Fall...she loves the colors and has an emotional attachment to the season. Debra met her future husband in the fall and married in the fall and their daughter was born in the fall, and their granddaughter was born in the fall a day after Debra's husbands birthday. So you can see why they love the fall!
Also ...Halloween is so open to designing for... using fall colors, she can go in so many directions and the colors are so stimulating to her.

We asked Debra to name a few of her favorite designers...she said, oh dear... this could be a long list! So, she has limited herself to only 7 of her favorites!1.Scott Smith of Rucus Studio, his everything is perfection!
2.Nicol Sayre, her dazzling dolls
3.Kerry Howard -Schmidt of Paper Moon Gallery, needle felt dolls
4. Lori ann Corelis, and her fabulous mohair critters
5. Johanna Parker, her whimsical creations
6. Tony Constanza, his awesome colorful wood carvings!
7. Calamity Kim, her fabric and paper creations and the most fun blog... blog of same name.
She could have gone on and on...but we think we see a how Debra's wide love of art can leave her to love almost all designers to some degree. Her blog hosts tons os swaps...Debra challenges folks to join in and swap and meet other artists, giving them a taste of some things they may have never tried to make before.
Inspiring them to do something new they may end up making it and loving it! Debra herself has taught papier mache workshops, and donated in the past.. but nothing lately.
She also keeps busy off-line designing for Bethany Lowe Designs Co. And of course, she has done a few shows over the years.
Keeping this busy...of course, she has support thru her family and friends.
That support has been in many ways from her family... just about every member of my family has driven and helped her at the shows, the joke was you weren't a real member of the family till you took Debra to a show!
Oh and how do they inspire her... they just leave her to do what she does best, create!
But her husband, daughter and sister are her biggest supporters. When she is anxious about her work or just in a funk about a project they help her to get through it. Can't ask for better than that...

I ask Debra what her newest project was...she said, some mohair doll designs, but won't show any till all the collection is done. She is also working on a collection for 'Bethany Lowe' but those are secret until 2010!
Debra will have new Snowmen, Angels, and a few Santas for sale on her website, but not till after Thanksgiving.

Debra is thinking of getting a etsy store maybe this month..., do watch for that !She does not sell on ebay but do buy alot on ebay, but her reproductions are for sale on ebay but not by her.
I asked Debra what advise she might have for an upcoming crafters for there
business, this is what she said:
Good photos are the most important!
Networking with other artists!
Use Paypal, she does alot of shopping online and she is so happy to use Paypal to track what she sells and buys so easily! Good advice, as starting a business you must keep records.
